Travel Tips

Tip#1

Whether you stay in a hotel or beach rental house, it is our best advice to stay on the island.
Staying on the
island supports local businesses and makes your vacation much easier to enjoy. You can park your
car in the establishment where you are staying and not have to worry about the hassle of paying for
parking or finding a spot on other areas of the island. Staying off the island is risky because of
traffic and parking and will add unnecessary stress to your vacation. Traffic can be monitored via
traffic cameras on wrightsville.com.

Tip #2

Plan your beach activities at least two weeks before your trip, as the best operators get
booked early. We also recommend doing water sports or fishing in the morning, as the wind picks up in the
afternoon and the beaches get crowded.

Tip #3

If you want your vacation to include summer ocean temperatures (not too hot, but not too
cold), plan your trip between June and early October.

Tip #4

Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected during the summer months. Keep your eye on
the sky throughout your day. Checking the radar every hour will keep you alert and safe.

Beach Guidelines

Beach Guidelines

• Smoking is not allowed on the beach strand in the town of Wrightsville Beach.
• Littering is not permitted in Wrightsville Beach, and could result in a fine.
• It is illegal to leave up any beach equipment overnight in the town of Wrightsville Beach, which
includes tents, canopies, umbrellas, and other beach gear.
• Do not walk on the sand dunes, or remove any vegetation from the oceanfront shoreline.
• Glass containers of any type are not allowed in Wrightsville Beach.
• Cooking devices, such as grills or portable camping stoves, are not allowed on the beaches.
• Visitors should fill any man-made holes before leaving the beach in order to avoid injury to
other beach- goers, or cause a hazard for emergency 4WD vehicles.
• Please pay close attention to the signal flags stationed along the shoreline, which indicate  swimming conditions. A green flag means that conditions are calm and conducive for swimming. A yellow flag indicates that moderate surf and/or currents are present, and swimmers should exercise caution when entering the ocean. A red flag indicates that conditions may be too dangerous and hazardous to swim, and a double red and white flag indicates that the beach is closed.
• Be on the lookout for rip currents, which can occur in all weather conditions. In an effort to stay safe, swim at lifeguarded beaches whenever possible. If you find yourself stuck in a current, swim parallel to the shore until you can safely get back to the beach.
