Scuba Diving

Scuba off the coast of Wilmington is unique and offers
world class diving. Divers can explore the fish at
Frying Pan Shoals, hunt for Megladon teeth, and see
sharks at the Hyde shipwreck. Beginner Open
Water divers can access shipwrecks close to the
shore, and Advanced Open Water certifications are
necessary to dive on the deeper wrecks and ledges
that line the coast. Wrightsville Beach Diving is
owned by Bret and Chris and they specialize in custom
fossil dives for Megladon teeth and spearfishing
trips. Aquatic Safari’s is the oldest dive shop in the
area and offers PADI certification classes, charters,
and gear sales.

Freediving

Freediving has become one of the fastest growing
sports and Wilmington is becoming a popular spot to
learn. Freediving safely and deep enough to reach good
diving locations requires professional instruction
and discipline. Ren and Ashley Chapman are local legends
and world record holders that have
championed the sport locally. They are fantastic instructors
and teach freediving courses with Evolve
Freediving. Reef Runner dive shop is a great stop right
before the beach to purchase gear, learn about
the sport, Talk to Mark the owner and world record
holder and schedule a charter out to the Frying Pan
Shoals and stay on the tower.
