Vitex update April 2009

Wrightsville Beach declared Vitex a public nuisance because it was reported by the SeaOats growing lobby that Vitex was a noxious weed and killed local vegetation. Vitex was not as capable as sea oats for saving the dunes from erosion.

It was also determined that "its woody roots do not prevent erosion as well as the roots of native species such as sea oats". This is amazingly false. The dunes at Wrightsville Beach are being stripped of vegetation in the effort to eradicate Vitex.
